Getting Started

Quick Terms and Processes to know

Before you begin your online auction journey, here are a few key terms and simple steps to know. Understanding them will help you easily browse items, place bids, and successfully win your auctions.

What does it mean by "Starts to Close"
  • Our online auctions close in a staggered format, with lots ending in sequence every minute. If a bid is placed within the last 2 minutes of a lot, the timer automatically extends to 2 minutes from the most recent bid, repeating until bidding stops. A lot closes when the timer reaches zero, and the winning bidder is the last recorded bid before closing.
  • This extension will continue in the same manner until no further bids are placed. A lot officially closes when its countdown timer reaches zero.
  • The winning bidder is the last individual whose bid is recorded in the bid history before the timer expires.
Your Bid is a contract
  • When you place a bid, you are agreeing to a legally binding contract to purchase the item if you win. You become the winning bidder if your bid is the highest at auction close and is accepted as the final sale.
All bids are final
  • Once you have placed and confirmed a bid, your bid cannot be retracted.

Please remember:

Once you have placed and confirmed a bid, your bid cannot be retracted.

Online Auctions FAQ

How do I place a bid?
  • To place a bid on an item, you must first be a registered bidder and be logged into your account. If you don't have an account yet, go to the Register account page and enter in the required information.
  • Click on the item that you wish to bid on, put the dollar amount that you wish to bid in the box. Please note that you can enter a maximum bid (Max Bid).
  • You will only be charged that Max amount if the item is bid up to that price. Otherwise, you will pay the next bidding increment of the previous bid.
  • If you have the highest bid you will see a notice on the screen. If someone has placed a higher max bid, you will see a notice and an email saying that you have been outbid. You always have the option to raise your bid.
What is a maximum proxy bid?
  • You can enter the highest amount that you are willing to bid.  The system will automatically place a bid on your behalf for the lowest amount possible up to your maximum bid using an incremental bidding system.
  • This allows you to remain the highest bidder for the online auction and your proxy bid will remain confidential to all parties, including Transitional Design.
Why was the bidding time extended?
  • If a bid is entered in the last 2 minutes of the lot closing, then the time will be extended by 2 minutes to ensure sufficient time for bidders to submit their bids.
  • This will continue until no bids are placed within the last 2 minutes.
Can I view the items prior to bidding?
  • Yes, you can come to our Broadview Heights location during our store hours to view the items prior to placing a bid.
  • Our hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 10AM to 5PM and Wednesday 10AM to 7PM. We are closed on Sunday and all major holidays.
How do I pay for my items?
  • You will receive an invoice the evening of the online auction closing. Your credit card on file will automatically be billed.
What is a “buyer’s premium”?
  • A buyer’s premium is a percentage added to the winning bid and is payable as part of the total purchase price to the auctioneer.
  • Sales tax is not applicable to the buyer’s premium.
Where is the pickup location of my winning items?
  • Most of our online auction items are housed at our facility at 601 Towpath Rd., Broadview Heights, OH 44147. You will pick up your items at the back of the building in Unit H.
  • We occasionally have online auctions from a customer’s residence, which will be noted in the auction description. In that case, the winning bidder will be notified of the address when they receive their invoice. For those types of auctions, the winning bidder will need to pick up their item at that location and during the pickup window.
pick up days and times
  • Yes, our pickup days and times are: Wednesdays from 2PM to 7PM. We offer help to load your heavy items on this day.
  • Saturdays from 11AM to 4PM. There is no help to load your items on this day, you'll need to bring help.
